smiled to herself. This was a good thing for her son.
Well, thank you so much, Ms. Cha Maria.
It s my pleasure, Kelly, Maria replied, hugging Kelly once again.
Now go, T. J., and bring her back to see me when this is over.
I will, Momv, T. J. said and kissed his mother s cheek once again.
Maria watched the truck drive off with her son and his companion inside. She was worried, but
she knew her son could take care of himself. She petted Tank s head who sat beside her on the
porch. Don t worry, Tanky, baby. He ll be back soon, and I don t think he ll be alone. She had the
sneaky suspicion that she would be seeing Kelly a lot more when this was over. After all, a mother s
instinct is never wrong.

Kelly wondered what T. J. s plan was. After they left his mother, he took the route to uptown
and drove right to the Marriott Hotel. She didn t know when he did it, but he had booked three
rooms. She asked why three rooms, but before he could respond, Danny strolled into the hotel
lobby with a suitcase. He was not dressed in his usual suit and tie, but in casual slacks and a T-shirt.
He looked completely different and less intimidating.
Kelly gave him a huge smile as he came up to them, and with a sexy drawl, she said, Why,
detective, I like the new look.
He grinned at her. Glad you approve.
If you two are done adoring Danny s look, we should go and talk, Taggert said.
On the fifth floor, the three rooms Taggert booked were all in a row with Kelly s in the middle
and doors within joined them. He had picked these rooms specifically because if something
happened, he and Danny could get to her immediately.
Five minutes to put your stuff away. Then we all meet in Kelly s room. I ll explain everything
then, Taggert said before going to his room and closing the door.
Danny looked at Kelly and winked which earned him another brilliant smile. Well, hop to it,
Ms. Kelly. Don t want to keep the lieutenant waiting.
With a mock salute, Kelly went into her room and closed the door. She looked around the room,
which had a small kitchen area, and frowned. She assumed they would be eating a lot of fast food
and made a note to ask for salads if and when they went to eat. The door that separated her and
Taggert s room opened, and he strode in.
Kelly stared at him with an irritated glare. Well, you could have knocked.
 You knew I was coming.
Still that was just rude. What if I had been naked or something?
With a raised eyebrow he looked at her as if picturing her naked. Then a knock came from
Danny s side of the door just before she could see where this could lead. Damn!
Come on in, she called. See, he was polite enough to knock.
What d I miss? Danny asked.
 Taggert is rude.
 I am not rude.
Well, he knocked, you didn t. That means rude.
Danny listened to the words volley back and forth. Do you two need some alone time cause I
can go back to my room and watch HBO.
Could we please just get on with this? It is after midnight, and I want to get some sleep
sometime! Taggert s irritation was evident in his voice.
Fine, still rude, though, Kelly said, needing to get the last word in.
Taggert shot her a dark look, and she sat back and folded her lips in making a locking motion
with her fingers on her lips. Danny was grinning at the comical expression on her face and that
caused T. J. to give him the same dark look.
Okay, here s the situation. We know this guy is openly stalking Kelly, and he has no intention
of stopping. We don t know who he is, but he obviously has either a connection in the police force
or enough pull to get info, maybe both.
So what do you have planned, T. J.? Danny asked.
We re going to take him out of his element, and keep her safe as well.
How are we going to do that? Kelly piped in.
We are taking you home, T. J. said simply.
Back to my apartment? she asked sharply. He got in there, he found me there.
Yeah, T-man, that s not a good place
No, no, not the apartment. We re taking her to Barbados.
* * * *
 What? What! Kelly stammered.
Hear me out, T. J. said even before Danny could open his mouth.
Here s how I look at it. He knows somehow where we put her, and like I said, this guy has a
connection somewhere, who s feeding him info and keeping him hidden. We re basically trying to
protect her from a ghost here, but we take her to Barbados, and we ll have the upper hand. He ll
have to fly out, and there ll be a trail, possibly even a name. I ll have someone I can trust on it from
this end, and down there we can control the situation better. Whoever it is will stand out like a sore
thumb.
I see where you re coming from, so that s why my lieutenant had my vacation papers ready
when I went into the precinct. Danny sat back in his chair.
That s right. The cover here is that the murders got to you, and you were given leave. You re
off the case. My superiors have already given me the go ahead, anything to get this guy out of the
papers here.
Kelly, who had been listening intently to the conversation, then asked, What about my family
there, Taggert? Won t this put them in danger?
I don t think so. You have brothers on the island and family. If necessary many different hiding
places, and he can t know them all because I myself don t know them all.
So you did a background check on me and my family.
Yes. I went more in-depth into your background, because this idea was in the back of my head
as a plan B.
I have to admit the thought of going back home is exciting. I haven t been there for a bit. I
would feel ten times safer around my family. So I guess I m going home.
Danny rubbed his face and with a grin stated, I ve always wanted to see the islands, the sun the [ Pobierz całość w formacie PDF ]
