ephemeral blue glow of moonlight.
Well, I can tell you one thing, baby, --he rubbed his shoulder-- I ain t no spring chicken
anymore.
She winced and nibbled on her lip. Still numb?
He rolled his eyes and smirked. You could say that.
Lina bit the inside of her cheek, trying to contain the laughter, but it didn t work. It
seemed like the right thing to do at the time. You don t think we traumatized that cow, do you?
His white teeth flashed into the darkness surrounding them. Anything s possible. Trent
reached out a hand and trailed it gently down her neck.
She sighed into him, and her lashes fluttered shut for an instant. She didn t want this
night to end; it had been so perfect. After the laughter and excitement faded, being held in his
arms was peaceful. Soothing. Wonderful.
But reality intruded. Tomorrow would be another hectic day. Her lips thinned, and she
grabbed the door handle. Thank you, Trent, she whispered. For everything. As she leaned
away from him to open the door, he grabbed her wrist.
Lina, I was wondering, --he cleared his throat-- if maybe you wouldn t mind some
company tonight?
Her lips curled into a semi-grin. Was he reading her mind or was she just that obvious?
Trent toyed nervously with the steering wheel, his gaze intense, and her heart melted all
over again. His brows knitted. I swear, no funny business, Lina. I um ... well, I sorta want to
cuddle.
A giggle escaped her at the serious expression on his face. Never in all her life did she
think she d hear big, bad Trent saying he just wanted to cuddle. Wasn t that just a pick-up line?
He twisted his lips and turned away, his hands dropping to his lap.

Tenderness spread through her body, reaching out its warm fingers and touching the life
back into her heart and soul. She grabbed his hand and lifted it to her mouth, pressing a tiny kiss
against his knuckle.
Oh, Trent, I swear, any woman in the world would die to hear those words fall from her
man s lips. But....
He shook his head. But what, then? What is there to think about?
I was going to ask you about Jess. I m sure she s bound to wonder why her father isn t
around when she wakes up in the morning.
He chuckled, dots of shimmering moonlight dancing in his eyes. Honestly, Lina. Do you
think for one minute that our meetings have been that clandestine? I had a very enlightening talk
with my daughter the other day, and she s given us the go ahead, if you know what I mean?
She didn t. Lina didn t know why anything Jess did surprised her. That child was the
spitting image of Merona s temperament, and how that was possible was beyond her. She knew
one thing, though--Jessica was spending way too much time with her grandmother.
He cocked his head and shrugged.
She snorted. Well who am I to argue with that, then?

Trent stepped through the doorway just as Lina clicked on the light. His stomach twisted
and knotted up. It wasn t as if he hadn t spent the night with her before. But this time felt much
more ... intimate. Before, they d fallen asleep after hot, exhausting sex. Now--he licked his lips--
it just felt different.
She dropped her keys into the little mortar on the tiny shelf by the door and turned toward
him, a radiant and slightly self-conscious smile touching her lips. He was glad to see he wasn t
the only one suffering from a case of nerves.
Lina pushed her blond bangs out of her face and shrugged. So.
He lifted a brow. Honey, if this makes you uncomfortable, I could go.
No. She shook her head quickly, walked toward him, wrapped her arms around his
back, and laid her cheek against his chest.
He sighed and nuzzled her hair. This felt so right. Better than anything ever had with
Nancy. Suddenly that wasn t such a startling revelation. It all made perfect sense. Lina was the
woman of his heart, and always would be.
Trent scooped her up, clutching her tight to his chest.
Oh, how lovely, a soft, melodic voice sounded in his ear.
Trent cast his gaze around the living room. Lina stiffened in his arms. Did you say
something? he questioned slowly.
Um. I said that this was lovely.... her words trailed off.
He was sure the voice hadn t been hers. He heard the same one sometimes when he was
around Lina. Trent shrugged it off. Obviously, he was just tired and his mind was playing tricks
on him. Again.
He planted a tender kiss on her forehead and walked toward the bedroom. She sighed into
him.
I have to take a shower, she whispered.
Mind if you have company tonight? I m feeling the need for a hot shower myself.
You rub my back, I rub yours? She lifted a blonde brow, her gray eyes twinkling.
Wouldn t have it any other way.

Lina inhaled the scent of the desert sage soap still clinging to Trent s body and ran her
fingers down the arm encircling her waist. She wiggled her bottom further into him and listened
to the steady rhythm of his deep breathing. If only she could sleep as peacefully as the man
behind her.
She glanced at her bedside clock and sighed. Already way past two, and she d yet to
catch even a minute of shuteye. Her mind wouldn t let her; she really needed to tell Trent [ Pobierz całość w formacie PDF ]
