Milo who nodded his assent I ll get that started as soon as you re settled in bed.
Bed? Why do I have to go to bed? I m not ashamed to admit that I sounded like a
whiny child.
Luke arched an eyebrow and held out his hands. The doctor said lots of rest for a few
days, so it s dinner, breakfast and lunch in bed for you.

Taking his hands, I allowed him to ease me up out of my seat, unable to suppress a
moan.
I ll bring you some more tea, Milo said, and it was official I was being ganged up
on.
I grinned and went slowly upstairs with Luke.
I refused to actually get into bed, but toed off my shoes and lay back against the pile of
pillows Luke fluffed up, still dressed and on top of the duvet. Come and sit beside me, I
said, wiggling my fingers at Luke.
Kicking off his own shoes, he got onto the bed and propped himself up beside me. He
wanted to hold me, I felt the need in him, but I also felt his caution and resistance he was
afraid of hurting me. I took one of his hands between both of mine and held it to my heart.
I got a message from the property agent, I can buy the house. Come and live with me,
he said, voice rough with emotion. Not just until the trial is over, but forever.
He must have felt the way my heart flipped over in my chest. I nodded. Yes. Forever.
The smile he gave me was breathtaking.
And, I was thinking, he added, a little hesitantly. About Milo. There s a flat over the
garage, it s completely self-contained. I was thinking that, when this is all over, he might like
to live there it would give him all the independence he needs, and he d still have us close
by.
I nodded, fighting the sting of tears. I think that sounds wonderful. I ll tell Mum to
expect one more for Christmas dinner.
What about our security detail? Luke asked, pleasure lighting his pale blue eyes.
Mum will find it all vastly exciting, and Dad probably won t notice. I reached up and
pulled his head down to mine for a brief kiss, needing his closeness.
My Hal, Luke whispered, a world of feeling in the two syllables.
My breath hitched and I ran my fingers through his thick, blond hair. My beautiful
white wolf. My mate. I kissed him again, tasting him, breathing his air, and felt him tremble
against me.
We broke apart only when we heard Milo s footsteps in the hall.
How about I light a fire in the grate, and we eat dinner together in here and watch a
movie? Luke asked.

I nodded, unable to speak for the emotion clogging my throat. After putting my tea on
the night table, Milo snagged the big armchair by the window. I vote for Die Hard 4.
Groaning, I said, How about something a little less& punishing?
Milo flushed, expression all apology. Harry Potter?
Perfect! I grinned, and turned my gaze to Luke. Just perfect.
Our path to this point had been less than smooth, and I suspected we had a few rocky
moments ahead, but I wouldn t have changed one stumbling footstep for anything.

Chapter One
In the space of half a heartbeat, Alex Jennings went from sound asleep to wide awake,
eyes darting around the room, hands clutching at the bed as a sound like the loudest thunder
he had ever heard rumbled through the house. The glass light fixture over the bed rattled
and the pile of coins he d stacked on the bedside table the night before tipped over, spilling
over the table and onto the hardwood floor.
When the shock of his rude awakening started to subside, and his heart rate had
returned to something resembling normal, a scowl pulled Alex s eyebrows together. Pushing
the covers aside, he swung his legs over the side of the bed, got to his feet and moved quickly
over the cool floor out into the hallway and down the stairs, cursing darkly under his breath.
The rumbling banging got louder as he approached his father s office at the back of
the house, and just as Alex shoved the door open there was an ear-splitting crash. Dear God, [ Pobierz całość w formacie PDF ]
